"Life
as I see It" - "All Dogs"
Randy Burns
For as long as I can remember, there's been a question concerning dogs and Heaven. "Animals don't go to Heaven," my parents, and other the adults would say. "They have their own place to go when they die."
You know, it's funny how they didn't know a thing about the place, what it was called, or what it was like. Even the Catholics, usually good at naming these places, gave us nothing. This solidarity of ignorance convinced many a youngster that their pet would not be with them in after life. However, they could still have anything Heaven offered. Ice cream, wings, clouds, all passed friends and relatives, but absolutely NO DOGS!
Who in God's name came up with that one? Come on, stand up and tell us where you got that idea, then explain to us all why you taught that crap to young children with living pets. It reeks of old school harshness. A compassionless attempt to separate from the common animal, after struggling to earn your right to enter Heaven. You have to try to be good and dogs don't, so you'll go to Heaven and they won't?
My dogs, the ones no longer living, are waiting there for me. That's reason enough to live by the Golden Rule. Your dogs really want to see you, and you'd love to see your dogs. There's never been a dog in hell. I don't care about the Bible, or what anyone told your children. Or, for that matter, what I was told as a kid. Every dog enters Heaven when it's time. That's right, they all get in. If you haven't already debunked this time worn misconception, you must tell your children now. Wake them up if they're sleeping, it's important. Not one more dog should die with a child thinking they'll never see them again. "God doesn't allow dogs in Heaven!" If your kid hears that from anyone, tell him its crap. All dogs go to Heaven, that's that. They're allowed to stroll in with tails wagging. God loves his sinless creatures.
Think of your dogs. Think of your love for them all. Consider the unconditional love they never fail, or failed to give. You are God's image. What would you do if you ran Heaven?
I'll take it one step further. If I was God, I'd walk around yelling, "I better not see any dogs around here," just for laughs.
Please, make sure your children know. ~
