14. WHITE BUFFALO -

While thinking about that time so long ago, Great Buffalo and Dog were surprised to look up and see two fish and two turtles swimming toward them. Dog asked, "You suppose those are the same turtles?"

Dog looked down at himself and then at Great Buffalo and laughed saying, "Well, you look just the same while we, on the other hand, have put some weight and age to our bodies."

A second voice chimed in, "Wolf and Buffalo come and go." The voice had come from behind them. The two stayed laying down, but turned around to see the source of the voice, which had continued, "But Turtle and Tortoise live forever."

Dog could just make out the shell, nearly camouflaged on the shore, just behind them, "Well, hello," said Dog. "How come you are not in the water?"

"I do not go in the water. I am a tortus and live only on land. I have great admiration for my cousins the turtles who live in the two worlds of Air and Water. Oh, they also live on the land and we drink the water. But just imagine what it must be to actually live in two completely different worlds.

Great Buffalo asked, "What do you mean you live forever?"

Tortoise explained, "Well, in your reality we live forever. The truth is, we live in a different Time than you."

Dog asked, "What do you mean by Time?"

Tortoise chuckled, "Now, that is a difficult one."

Dog suggested, "Is it like the time it takes to go from the sun comes up to the sun goes down to the sun comes up again?"

"Not exactly," Tortoise paused in thought, before continuing, "You may have noticed that I walk very slowly. And, as you see in the turtles, we grow very slowly. The Turtles and Tortoise understand that the lives of buffalos, wolves, and fish move at a far great pace than ours.

"Your question, when you were just youngsters, concerning what Fish sees when flopping around outside its water world, got Turtle to thinking. So, they asked Fish about how they see things. They all decided that Fish see things moving around faster than do Turtles. A swimming bug on top of the water appears to move in slow motion to Turtle compared to what Fish sees. That is why we are so successful at catching bugs. To us, they are moving slowly."

"Great Buffalo, this Superior Being that can dream while awake, which you wish created, poses a great danger, that you have been warned of by a number of beings. You must make sure this Superior Being is constrained by Time. A being who lives forever must have a perfectly pure heart. It will be very difficult to create such a pure heart.

"We of the Turtle-Tortoise Family support your efforts at manifesting a new level of conscious development, the next step in the evolution of Mother Earth. Our requirement is that your new creation be limited by Time. This Superior Being must know death is never far away. This perspective will make them think in terms of generations. Preservation of Mother Earth for their children might be the difference between having a future and having nothing. Time limitation will make this Superior Being look to the children and preservation of the future.
