Great Buffalo asked, "Where exactly would I find Lynx?" but, Lizard had closed her eyes again.
"On the mountain," came the voice from the tree, startling Great Buffalo.
"Crow, you startled me. I did not see you," Great Buffalo looked around and continued, "Where is the rest of the flock?" "Somewhere. Not here. Not exactly here. Close. Not too near." "I know Lynx lives on the mountain. Can you take me there?" "Where Lynx lives?" Crow asked in reply. "Yes." "But you can see it from here." |

Great
Buffalo looked toward the distant horizon saying, "Not today. The
mountain is covered in clouds." He turned and looked directly into
Crow's eye noting, "And, I meant, bring me to where Lynx lives on
the mountain. I have been to the mountain before. I have never seen Lynx.
I need you to guide me to Lynx."
Crow asked, "You went to the mountain, when?" "When my father took me on my Vision Quest, to prepare me for the role of Herd Leader. I was just a young buck, then. But, my father was already old. Some say the trip killed him. I think he took me on the trip because he felt he did not have long to live." Great Buffalo again looked to the cloud hidden mountain and noted, "I would like to see the mountain again and those who live there." "Like who besides Lynx," asked Crow. Great Buffalo's memory brought back images and he replied, "My friends who live there, on the mountain." |
"And, why do you want to see Lynx?" Crow asked. "To find a purpose for living," the great buffalo replied solemnly. Crow snapped back his head and let out a deafening, "Caw! That's the funniest thing I have ever heard. A purpose for living. Well, Sir, is not living a purpose in and of itself? You live, you die. I might get a bug or two. The Great Owl might get me. Circle of Life they call it." "But, Crow, who kills the buffalo? Whom do I feed with my death?" |
"Never gave that much thought. Of course you are right. And, so you are in search of a being worthy of your life. A being that can dream the Future while awake." Great Buffalo snapped back, "How long have you been following me? How much did you hear. What are you after, Crow?" Crow bowed, saying, "I am here to serve you, Sire, in your quest for the secrets Lynx holds." |
