The sun was rather high in the sky before the clouds parted and the late sunrise woke the buffalo, the wolf, and the crow. They all looked at each other. Great Buffalo smiled at his friend, and Dog smiled back. "Great Day, hey Young Buck?" "Great Day, Dog. It is good to be with you."

Dog looked over to Crow saying, "And good to see you, Little Friend." Crow's response was a screamed, "Snake!" Dog stopped and tried to see what had freighted Crow. The sun beams came and lighted the bushes and Dog saw Snake. |

Snake slithered closer, saying, "Sorry I was so rude to you last night. I was hungry. Great Buffalo joined the two watching as Snake silently moved closer. "You have come to me for something. You are not a food to me, I eat only small things and even the feathered one is too large. If our paths have crossed, there is a reason. What do you want from me?" Great Buffalo remembered his father's words and replied, "The Gift." "And what gift is that?" "The Gift of Transmutation."
"The knowledge to change," answered Great Buffalo. "What would you change?" "Life. I would change my life to include a reason for living." Snake hissed, "Annnnd...?" "And a reason for dying," Great Buffalo replied. Snake's eyes were unblinking and seemed to carve into Great Buffalo's very soul. Snake was still holding the hypnotic stare, while saying, "Lynx will tell you how to create your Superior Being, capable of dreaming while awake. You have already transmuted your essence. To make a change in All-That-Is, you must first change yourself." With a slight turn of his head, Snake fixed the stare on Dog. "And what of you. What is to be your fate?" Snake did not stay to hear whatever reply Dog would have made. In an instant Snake was gone.
